Sun Yang

Sun Yang (born December 1, 1991) is the first male Chinese swimmer in history to win an Olympic gold medal. He is also the world record holder for distance swimming. Sun came into the spotlight during the 2010 Asian Games by winning the men's 1500m freestyle and setting an Asian record. At the 2011 World Championships, Sun broke the world record in the 1500 metre freestyle, long-held by Grant Hackett and which was the longest-held world record in swimming history, and the only men's swimming record to not have been beaten during the techsuit era.

He won gold in the 400 m freestyle at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, becoming the first Chinese man to win an Olympic title in swimming.

Born in the southern Chinese city of Hangzhou, Sun is a sophomore student at Zhejiang University majoring in sports.
